Baton Rouge Holiday Events That Make You Fall in Love with Home All Over Again

There’s something magical about the holiday season in Baton Rouge. The twinkle of lights downtown, the smell of hot cocoa in the air, and the sound of laughter from local festivities - it’s the time of year when our city truly shines. Whether you’re a longtime local or new to the area, the holidays remind us what “home” really means: community, connection, and a whole lot of joy.

Here are some of my favorite Baton Rouge holiday events that will make you fall in love with home all over again:

1. Festival of Lights @ Downtown Baton Rouge

This beloved kickoff to the holiday season is a local favorite! Downtown Baton Rouge transforms into a winter wonderland with live music, art vendors, and thousands of sparkling lights. Families gather to watch the annual tree lighting, and you can even sneak a visit with Santa while you’re there. Grab a cup of cocoa, stroll under the lights, and soak in the small-town charm that makes our capital city feel so warm and welcoming.

2. ZooLights at BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo

If you’ve never experienced ZooLights, make this the year! The Baton Rouge Zoo glows with giant illuminated animal displays and over a mile of twinkling lights. It’s a perfect evening for families, couples, or anyone who just wants to feel that nostalgic holiday magic. Bonus: your visit helps support wildlife conservation, so it’s a win-win for everyone (including the animals!).

3. Christmas at the Burden

Step back in time at this charming event hosted by Burden Museum & Gardens. You’ll find live music, candlelight, horse-drawn carriage rides, and even a live nativity scene. It’s one of those classic holiday experiences that reminds you of the beauty of simple traditions and why home feels so special this time of year.

4. Santa Rocks the Rowe

This annual event at Perkins Rowe is a festive, family-friendly event that brings holiday cheer to life with live music, a visit from Santa, seasonal activities, and local vendors. It’s the perfect way to get into the spirit, enjoy a fun evening out, and create memories right in the heart of Baton Rouge. And while you’re in Perkins Rowe, you may as well stop by your favorite local shop and grab a gift or two!

5. Local Neighborhood Light Displays

One of my favorite parts of the season? Piling into the car with hot chocolate and driving around to see neighborhood light displays. From Shenandoah to Old Goodwood, you’ll find homes that go all out with holiday cheer. It’s a simple Baton Rouge tradition that never gets old and it always reminds me how special it is to live in a community that celebrates together.

The holidays are such a beautiful reminder of what home is all about: laughter, love, and the people who make your community feel like family. Whether you’re decorating your own porch with twinkling lights or exploring the city’s festivities, I hope this season brings you warmth and a renewed love for where you live.f
